Daniel M. Clark, Founder of QAQN, will be the Emcee at Affiliate Summit East 2012, which is taking place August 12-14, 2012 at the Hilton New York.

Daniel M. Clark is a podcast production consultant and the founder of QAQN, a collection of informative and entertaining podcasts.

A resident of the internet since 1992, he either is or has been: a t-shirt designer, an art reviewer, a system administrator, a video game designer and programmer, a blogger, an affiliate marketer, a podcaster, a space cowboy, and a gangster of love. He has, in fact, gotten his lovin’ on the run.

Mostly what Daniel is right now is a work-at-home dad, raising two kids, ages 6 and 3 with his wife, Angela. Daniel has written articles for FeedFront magazine and Blogworld.com. He publishes a variety of podcasts at QAQN.com, including Inside Internet Marketing, his most frequently downloaded show.

Daniel’s first Affiliate Summit was Affiliate Summit East 2006 and he has been a speaker at four Affiliate Summits since 2008.

I’ve gotten questions from lots of folks in the past day who have donated or are thinking about donating to support me in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

They were all wondering whether the Avon Foundation for Women is affiliated with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Affiliates should be split testing their landing pages, but many I’ve asked have never bothered.

For the uninitiated, split or A/B testing is a process where you serve up different versions of your page to different visitors to determine which is more effective.

I’ve tried various ways in WordPress and found they were largely a hassle, until I can across the Simple Page Tester plugin.

The plugin lives up to the name, as it was simple to set up and start a split test.

You just choose an existing page and then choose to duplicate the page, create a fresh page to test against, or choose another existing page.

Then you determine how many people see each version of the page by adjusting the percentage in either direction.

It’s up to you to track conversions from each version. After you run a test, you can declare one page the winner.

At that point, the winning page becomes the new master page and the old variation is deleted for you.

Simple as that.

We’ve been going with a naming convention of precious metals (and recently adding a gem) for the Affiliate Summit pass types, but we’ve found from feedback and customer service inquiries that the names don’t really say anything.

So, we’re changing them up to (hopefully) bring some immediate clarity to the benefits of the pass types.

Networking Pass (formerly Silver)
Admission to Meet Market and Exhibit Hall, and Keynotes. The pass to get if you’re just going to network.

Networking Plus Pass (formerly Gold)
Admission to Meet Market, Exhibit Hall, Keynotes, Sunday educational sessions; access to all recorded session videos; and PowerPoint presentations. This pass does not include access to Monday and Tuesday sessions in person. If your priority is networking, but you want to sample some educational sessions, this is the way to go – networking plus some sessions.

VIP Pass (formerly Platinum)
Includes Breakfast and Lunch on Monday and Tuesday; admission to Meet Market, Exhibit Hall, Keynote, all educational sessions on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; participation in the Newcomer program; access to all recorded session videos; and PowerPoint presentations. Not to say that there are any unimportant attendees, but this level gets the VIP treatment. Nice, hot buffet breakfasts and lunches, access to all sessions, and other perks. If you really want the 360 degree Affiliate Summit experience, you should be a VIP.

All Access Pass (formerly Diamond)
Includes Breakfast and Lunch on Monday and Tuesday; admission to Meet Market, Exhibit Hall, Keynote, all educational sessions on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; participation in the Newcomer program; access to all recorded session videos; PowerPoint presentations; your company logo on your name badge, and Express Checkin at the conference. ALSO: DVDs of all recorded session videos. Sometimes VIP just isn’t enough. If you want all of the perks of a VIP, plus DVDs of the sessions, the All Access Pass is your destiny.

Affiliate Summit has been giving away “Pay It Forward Scholarships” to up to 50 affiliates per conference, who could not otherwise afford to attend, for a couple years now.

And now we’re starting up a “Pay it Forward Merchant Endowment” Program, where we will be sponsoring up to 8 merchants at Affiliate Summit East 2012 with free tradeshow space in the Exhibit Hall or Meet Market.

The goal of this new endowment is to make the tradeshow networking experience of Affiliate Summit available to merchants who might not otherwise be able to exhibit.

The Performance Marketing Association (PMA) reports that the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is delaying enforcement of its Affiliate Nexus Tax law until September 1, 2012.

Hopefully, merchants will continue to work with their affiliates in Pennsylvania, rather than jumping the gun and booting them out.
